Scar - the genre/inspiration/initial ideas

The genre that our chosen band, Scar, fall into is the genre of rock. This is usually seen to be a collaboration of certain typical instruments, guitar, bass guitar, drums. The music itself has been derived from many other genres including folk, jazz,blues and many more. It started off with its main focus on the electric guitar and it is common for there to be a guitar solo, demonstrating the skill of the guitarists.


When listening to the song we could See similarities in this band to other bands. One of the main influential bands that we all thought of at the time was bowling for soup, this is because their songs sound similar to one we have chosen and they fall into the same genre. Using their videos we also were able to get some ideas for our video, we watched videos such as "1985" and "Girl all the bad guys want", these videos showed us that we can take lyrics that are meaningful, in this case about a relationship, and put a comical twist on it. Going down this route opened up some other ideas for influential bands, bands like Blink 182 and Sum 41 all fall into the same genre if not others as well and a common theme with all these bands is comical videos usually about relationships.



Bowling For Soup - 1985

 

This video gives a good idea to how our video will plan out if we decide to do something similar. In this video we see the use of stereotypes of different genres of music, we decided we could use stereotypes as well but maybe not of different types of music but maybe different stereotypes of people. We think that this would appeal to people as they will be quick to judge and maybe enjoy deciding which each of the characters in our video depicts in the real world. This video also depicts the idea of a relationship or a sexual fantasy that the band have of a woman, we also think that we could use this idea within our video, but have decided that we could link the idea of the stereotypes and the sexual fantasy together maybe having a different sexual fantasy for each character instead of the band collectively allowing us to play with the idea of what each stereotype we choose is like in a relationship, again allowing us to produce a comical video. Straight off the bat initial ideas and influential videos can lead to ideas for every aspect of the video, for example with the editing we could use an effect to show the idea that its a sexual fantasy, e.g zoom in towards the head of the character and then a ripple, blur or fade to white to show that its a dream.


     

Bowling For Soup - Girl All The Bad Guys Want

Again this is a very similar idea, it shows a relationship but in a comical way plus there is a couple of stereotypes of people in it as well. this gives us a base to work on and shows us an "along the same lines" idea to what we are planning.


blink-182 - "All The Small Things" - another example of a different band that use comedy in their videos, again usually about relationships. This shows that music of this genre suits this type of video and that it would be suitable for our video to follow this trend and have similar aspects to these videos.

this clip shows the idea of fantasys of individuals with the same peson it also depicts a relationship fantasy so very similar to our idea and gives us some good ideas to add to ours, e.g how they have done it in terms of editing.
