Conventions of ancillary tasks - Digipak

Conventions of ancillary tasks

The two ancillary tasks that have been set for us to do to accompany the  promo video are a digipak and a poster/magazine article related to the band that we are using. There are conventional aspects to each of these.

First is the digipak. Seen below is the digipak for Ed Sheeran's + album. The structure for the digipak generally is in this formation of 6 tiles however it can come in various shapes and sizes. The general themes and information depend on the genre and vary from each genre, this specific artist is a indie acoustic artist, the pictures that have been used illustrate the audience, songs and personal information to the artist, in this case Ed Sheeran. Things like the age group shown in the pictures, about 18-22, are representative of the age group that would listen to this and I would assume would be friends of Ed Sheeran's and therefore will appeal to the audience. Also the theme of alcohol is also a theme throughout the digipak. This links with some of his songs, most prominently with the song "drunk", re alliterating and repeating ideas also draws in the audience and gives them something to relate to. General information that is always included on a digipak will be the title of the album, usually featured on the front and spines, a list of the songs included  and lots of other general information about the artist on all the extra flaps and tiles that the digipak provides over the regular CD case.

Another digipak, this time a Green Day digipak, again reoccurring themes that tie into the songs ad genre of the band are key and very conventional. This time the use of colours is very prominent and "punk" like themes are also very prominent.

(below) Examples of how a digipak may open out. Either a straight line open out or the cross version, both equally conventional, but again depend on the artist and genre.
